SurveyMonkey alternatives: choose around your missing job
Compare SurveyMonkey alternatives around one customer pulse, preserving routing, cannot-judge responses, missing values and usable exports.

For a short pulse sent to customers you already reach, pilot Google Forms. Assess Typeform when the respondent experience and conditional flow drive the job; Qualtrics when recurring research needs justify its broader workflow. Test routing, special answer states and exports on one questionnaire first. Changing the form builder does not supply missing respondents or a research owner.
Sapien publishes this comparison and is included as a different research workflow.
Choose the collection job before the replacement
If open-source licensing or self-hosting is the reason for leaving, make it an explicit requirement alongside routing and exports. Ask who will host, maintain and support the chosen software, then run the same delivery-pulse pilot. Free access answers a price question; it does not establish an open-source licence or control of hosting.
Tool | Best-fit job and consequential limit |
|---|---|
Concrete advantage / best-fit job: Collect from an audience you already reach and work with raw responses in Google Sheets Limitation that changes the choice: Bring your own audience; section-routing and question-flow limits may not support the instrument | |
Concrete advantage / best-fit job: A tailored respondent-facing form with conditional flow Limitation that changes the choice: Response, user, branding and logic entitlements depend on the selected plan; confirm exports and do not assume purchased respondents | |
Concrete advantage / best-fit job: More extensive survey logic and paid guided research methods for a recurring research workflow Limitation that changes the choice: Free-account limits and paid-method access differ; recruit and quality-check the sample separately |
The official pages were checked on October 6, 2026. These routes are candidates for a pilot, not tested equivalents. Start with your actual questionnaire, audience, required plan and the export your analyst needs.
Preserve the branch and answer states
Consider a subscription brand with 300 named customers and a short monthly delivery pulse. This illustrative questionnaire lets you test a replacement on a complete, bounded job:
- Are you a current subscriber? If no, exit before the delivery question.
- Did the last delivery arrive as expected? Eligible subscribers can answer Yes, No or Cannot judge.
- Keep Cannot judge distinct from a neutral rating. Keep an unanswered eligible question as missing in the export.
Test that path on the chosen plan; it is a proposed questionnaire, not a verified product flow.
Move one delivery pulse first
Your replacement succeeds when it preserves that delivery-pulse path and produces usable records.
Build the copied questionnaire, complete it on the intended device and export test paths. Test a submitted eligible record with an optional item unanswered separately from a respondent who leaves before submitting; confirm whether the latter produces an exportable partial record on the selected plan. Include an eligible answer, an ineligible answer, a cannot-judge answer and an eligible partial response. Reconstruct the primary count from the export. In Google Forms, answer-based section routing is limited to multiple-choice and dropdown questions; the screener must fit that mechanism.
Free access must cover the complete pulse
Qualtrics’ free account lists one user, three active surveys, 30 questions per survey and 500 total responses. Treat that as a total allowance, not a stated monthly entitlement; retaken and deleted responses count toward it, and the free account does not distribute email invitations. It documents skip, display and branch logic plus export to CSV, TSV, Excel, XML and SPSS. Typeform’s free route has a bounded monthly response allowance; paid entitlements vary. Confirm the exact configuration before moving ongoing collection.
A response allowance permits collection; it does not deliver qualified people. Typeform advertises a separate Research Flow with panel access, and SurveyMonkey LaunchPad separately prices targeted responses. Keep recruitment distinct from the ordinary collection plan.
Preserve the states behind the count
Migration check | Pilot example and passing condition |
|---|---|
Eligibility | Example to run on the copied instrument: Submit an ineligible answer Passing condition: No offer-rating record enters the eligible base |
Exclusive option | Example to run on the copied instrument: Select None with another answer where prohibited Passing condition: The response rule is enforced or the conflict is visibly flagged |
Unanswerability | Example to run on the copied instrument: Submit Cannot judge Passing condition: It remains a distinct code, not a middle rating |
Partial response | Example to run on the copied instrument: Stop after one optional item Passing condition: Missing is distinguishable from a negative or skipped route |
Result reproduction | Example to run on the copied instrument: Calculate one count and base from export Passing condition: It agrees with the declared measure and dashboard definition |
The table gives cases to run, not assertions about account behavior. An ineligible record stays outside the eligible base. Cannot judge stays outside an ordered rating. A routed skip differs from a customer abandoning an answer. Save the export mapping and passing test records beside the first new wave.
A new form can create a new measurement
Changed wording, order, required fields or device presentation can affect answers even when the question labels look familiar. Keep the migration and questionnaire redesign separate where practical. If a material change is needed, run an appropriate old-versus-new bridge before calling a wave movement a change in customer experience.
Price the actual plan, collaborators, response volume and export workflow. The checked Typeform page exposed several price variants, so this guide does not adopt one universal paid price. Get terms for the configuration you would keep.
Collection and a managed comparison are separate purchases
For answers from these named customers, buy a collection workflow and maintain a sound contact process. A Sapien study is a managed modeled comparison for an appropriately grounded offer or message decision. It supplies a different evidence route rather than transferring your customer-pulse history.
Make the first move small and conclusive
Pilot Google Forms for this short pulse if routing and export pass. Pilot Typeform if the intended form experience requires it, or Qualtrics if broader recurring requirements justify the scope. Move the program after the copied pulse reproduces its counts and special states. If the missing job is recruitment, design or interpretation, commission that work explicitly before changing software.
