Kantar competitors: Which research capability are you replacing?
Replacing Kantar can change the study, the advice and the benchmark behind a decision. Use a worked lunch-concept brief to compare Ipsos, Zappi, quantilope and Sapien.

Kantar competitors to examine for consumer innovation research include Ipsos, Zappi, quantilope and Sapien. Their fit depends on whether you need an innovation program, repeatable consumer tests, flexible methods or an early modeled comparison.
Consider a chilled-food brand choosing two of five lunch-bowl concepts for taste testing. Each concept includes the recipe, portion, pack, proposed price and retail channel. The audience is US adults who bought chilled prepared lunches in the past four weeks. This is an illustrative brief, with no study findings attached.
The innovation sponsor wants a recommendation before reserving development capacity. The insights lead also wants to know how the new concepts compare with previous research. Replacing a supplier will be useful only if the team agrees what happens to that historical reference.
Kantar Marketplace and an expert-led program are different scopes
Kantar Marketplace offers automated research across concepts, packs, prices, advertising and brand questions, with self-serve studies or expert service. A Marketplace study and a broader expert-led engagement can place different responsibilities on the buyer. Identify the actual studies, advice and deliverables in your contract before sending a replacement brief.
For the lunch brand, distinguish the repeatable concept test from the researcher's work interpreting category context, challenging the concept cards and recommending development. Ask which of those services the current team uses. A new dashboard may replace the test interface while leaving the interpretation work on the insights lead's desk.
Evidence continuity is another requirement. Kantar's ConceptEvaluate norms documentation says the selected category determines the norms, with country-level calculations and calibration against another country when sufficient market/category records are unavailable. The relevant benchmark therefore needs a definition, not just a familiar score name.
Ipsos for a broader innovation engagement
Ipsos describes Collective Innovation as an end-to-end offer bringing together strategy, data, advisory services and idea, concept, product and packaging work. It is a route to examine when the brand needs a research partner across development stages.
For the lunch brief, ask for a proposal connecting concept selection to the next product test. Who challenges an appealing promise that the recipe can't deliver? Who interprets a concept that attracts current customers but offers little reason for other buyers to switch? Require those responsibilities and the deliverables to be explicit.
Ipsos also offers InnoCPT through Ipsos.Digital, connecting concept and product evaluation. Confirm the current audience, market, modules and service arrangement for the actual project. The supplier's broad innovation offer doesn't mean every digital study includes the same advisory work or replaces the brand's existing benchmark.
Zappi for repeatable concept learning
Zappi's concept-testing offer includes consumer diagnostics, audience filtering, norms and custom questions. It is relevant when the brand's main requirement is running and learning from a continuing series of concept tests.
Give Zappi the existing lunch-concept questionnaire, stimulus format, audience definition and decision readout. Ask it to identify the measures it can preserve, those it would change, and the benchmark available for this category and market. A new norm can be useful without being interchangeable with the old one.
The sponsor should see how the system distinguishes a concept that deserves development from one that needs a particular repair. For example, portion confusion and an unappealing recipe require different actions. Request the underlying consumer explanations alongside the standardized scores, and establish who will translate them into the development recommendation.
quantilope for method flexibility and defined service levels
quantilope's platform documentation lists automated methods including conjoint, MaxDiff and A/B testing, with DIY, assisted and managed service arrangements. It also describes connecting external panels or using its panel partners.
This route deserves attention when the lunch brand needs to change the research design, such as separating feature priorities from reactions to complete offers. MaxDiff can ask people to make best-and-worst choices among defined items; conjoint presents tradeoffs between offers. Those tasks answer different questions from evaluating five complete concept cards.
Ask the supplier to recommend a design for the development decision and show the resulting report. Then quote the appropriate support level. If the team wants consultants to build, field and analyze the study, confirm that managed scope rather than assuming a software agreement includes it. A broader method menu helps only when the team can use and interpret the selected method.
Sapien for modeled exploration before consumer validation
Sapien builds data-grounded simulated audiences for comparisons of products, messages, prices and market choices. Our audience-building guide describes how study inputs and audience context connect to the research.
For the lunch brand, we could explore the five complete concepts, examine likely misunderstandings and help identify what to develop or revise before the next human study. Relevant category research and customer evidence can inform the brief. Agree what supports the required buyers and which audience differences the work needs to examine.
The resulting responses are modeled evidence. They don't add fresh human observations to the brand's historical concept database, and they cannot record how a lunch tastes or performs after purchase. Keep the concept-screening recommendation separate from the taste test and from any approval requiring a human benchmark.
A replacement worksheet for the lunch program
Use the same worksheet with each shortlisted supplier. Have the insights lead mark the conditions that must be met before the team can switch.
Dependency | Required answer for the lunch-concept decision |
|---|---|
Current scope | List the concept study, researcher advice, category context and presentation currently purchased. |
Complete stimuli | Preserve all five recipe, portion, pack, price and channel cards, including version dates. |
Audience | Specify recent category purchase, market, exclusions and groups whose response could change development. |
Exposure and questions | Show what changes in assignment, wording, scales, options and order. |
Evidence source | Label human, modeled and existing-data components separately. |
External benchmark | Define the proposed norm's category, country, period, measures and any calibration. |
Internal history | Identify the past studies that can be reused, the permissions needed and measures that cease to be comparable. |
Report | Return one row per concept, buyer group, measure and answer option, with source, response count, valid human or modeled base, percentage and uncertainty where applicable. |
Recommendation | Explain which two concepts advance, what needs revision and when the evidence supports taking more than two forward. |
Next development stage | Specify the physical taste test and other checks outside the concept study. |
Delivery | Name the study owner, research reviewer, full fee, included analysis, revisions and readout date. |
A new benchmark needs its own decision rule
Being the strongest of five internal candidates and performing well against a relevant external benchmark are separate claims. The shortlist could contain a relative leader that the brand still doesn't want to develop. Conversely, several concepts may be promising enough that the first development constraint is capacity.
Before comparing results, have the insights lead document what the old approval rule meant and how it would work under the proposed method. If measures or samples change, decide whether an overlap study is needed or a new baseline is more honest. Reusing a metric label won't preserve its meaning.
Our concept-testing methods guide explains how exposure changes the question a test answers. Apply that reasoning to the supplier demonstration as well as the questionnaire. For the lunch brand, the replacement is ready when the sponsor can understand why particular concepts deserve a taste test, the insights lead can explain the comparison with history, and neither has to treat a changed score as an unchanged approval gate.
